STATEMENTS
“Elegance and low-keyness make for a hard-hitting Pinter.” -Erling Steenstrup, NRK
“Ferske Scenes’ production of Pinter’s drama hits the audience as an unpleasant reminder of behavior in private life, atrocities in history and the present, and (the lack of) engagement in the public sphere.” - Ruben Moi, Nordly

By Harold Pinter
A simple text that asks complex questions. A reality where the distinction between lies and truth has been washed out.
Harold Pinter won the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2005. This is one of his most recent and most controversial texts. It has not been performed in Norway until the National Theatre and Ferske Scener premiered simultaneously in 2006. Ashes to Ashes (1996) is a simple text from Pinter's hand that raises complex questions: Who is guilty? Who is responsible? Who is the victim? Who refuses to look the world in the eye?
Rebekka and Devlin live a life that Devlin experiences as happy, until one day Rebekka starts to tell what she is carrying.
Fresh Scenes' performance is an encounter with a reality where the distinction between lies and truth has been blurred. With newly written music and surprising images, a scenic reality is created where the sinister basis behind Devlin and Rebekka's happiness comes to light.
The script was developed in collaboration with Ferske Scener.
