Blood Club #7 – Blood Day
Upcoming game dates: TBA
Premiere: Northern Norway Festival, Harstad 23.06 2024.
Blodklubb is supported by the Norwegian Arts Council, Tromsø Municipality, Troms County Council
In this meeting at Blodklubb, the club for everyone who has blood, we celebrate Blood Day.
We have been inspired by national day celebrations with tributes to past struggles and displays of power and strength. Within the participatory performance format that the Blood Club Series is, a national celebration is created with personal stories, blood club dance, ritualized combat and competitions. In this Blood Club Meeting, the audience is given the opportunity to release aggression, adrenaline and not least laughter within the framework of the alternative reality of performing arts.
Our contradictory relationship to culture and genetics is the starting point for the performance series Blodklubb. One of several pivot points is the Sami cultural heritage, another is the artists' genetic heritage. In an unpredictable mix of humor and deep seriousness, Blodklubb treats themes such as belonging, community, cultural heritage and cultural future. Each meeting is a unique performance with new themes.
The four founders of Blodklubb all have deep roots in the north and represent four northern Norwegian archetypes:
The Sami activist: Sigbjørn Skåden
The victim of Norwegianization: Bernt Bjørn
The bearer of Norwegian guilt: Kristin Bjørn
The neutral, Finnish researcher: Kristina Junttila
Said about previous Blood Club meetings:
"Perhaps it is precisely because you can't put your finger on where art ends and life begins, between coincidence and dramaturgy, that Blodklubb works so damn well. Through an experimental, playful and curious approach to performing arts as a social arena, they create an effective platform and a safe space."
