STATEMENTS
“Bernt Bjørn interprets Jon Fosse in a very personal, convincing and moving way. He makes the text his own, he doesn't play, he is the guitar man.”
-Glenn Fagervik, Utropia
“Bernt Bjørn brings out both the humor and melancholy in the play - He performs Jon Fosse's monologue - also with singing and guitar playing - so well that we are drawn into the life of the guitar man in a strange way. And that has become good theater.”
-Bjørn H. Larsen, Northern Lights
“In The Guitar Man, there is a rather painful story that is told, and it is told well.”
-Helge Matland, Bladet Tromsø.
By Jon Fosse
We meet a man in a midlife crisis. In the play, he comes to terms with life. He makes a decision and acts on it. There is a time for everything, including giving up. Looking defeat in the eye can make you see something completely different.
The plot of The Guitar Man is simple: a street singer taking a short break; a respite from the trivialities and repetitions of everyday life.
The Guitar Man was written in 1998 and is a monologue. Ferske Scener had the Norwegian premiere of the play in 2003.
The script was developed in collaboration with Ferske Scener.
