We Raise Our Heads in Shame is a newly written northern Norwegian opera – a science fiction drama from a not-too-distant future. Norway speaks beautiful words about the environment and peace, but makes big money on oil and weapons. What does this duplicity do to us?

The play follows a group of people trying to live with the contradictions between ideals and actions. When the nature child Bror appears, he becomes an involuntary symbol of purity and rebellion.

The first part plays with the opera form, while the second part – Folkestyret – breaks the fourth wall and invites the audience to participate.

With music, humor and seriousness, Ferske Scener shows how the moral dilemmas of our time can be reflected in an artistic space where the audience is not just a witness, but a co-creator.

We Raise Our Heads in Shame marked an artistic leap for Ferske Scener – from documentary theater and local roots to a larger, more experimental format.
The opera form opened up new possibilities for expression, and the collaboration with the Northern Norway Festival and the House of Drama raised the theatre into a national space.
